Game 1 - Word Game

As Salaamu 'Alaykum/Hello/Bonjour/Hola

Saboon - ???- Soap/Savon/Jabón(Spanish)

so the next letter is N / noon

I went through all 17 pages of this topic and noticed some words are repeated alot…so I think we should try to keep it fresh Insha’Allah…

As Salaamu 'Alaykum/Good Bye/Au Revoir/Adios

Nîshân -??? - straight ahead.

l7rf jjay: N, ?

naqis = less ( sorry I don’t know how to put the arabic signs )

l7rf jjay: S

As Salaamu 'Alaykum/Hello/Bonjour/Hola,

??? (Safir)- Travel/Voyage/Viajar

so the next letter is Raa

As Salaamu 'Alaykum/Good Bye/Au Revoir/Adios

Qbr. That’s where mqbara comes from.
Qabr in MSA.

Yep, it is.
Frg3a - ??? - to blow up, detonate.

l7rf jjay - 3, ?
It’s frg3, or frga3… No a at the end.
3aâm - ??? - he swam.

l7rf jjay - M, ?
3âam could also be year.

Common joke, you ask someone if they swam: 3mtî?
And they answer: Lâ, khâltî.
3mtî is also the word for “my paternal aunt”. So the joke is to stress on the confusion between “you swam” and “paternal aunt”, and return a “No, my maternal aunt”.
It’s not too funny though, just wanted to let you know about it, in case you hear it somewhere some day.
??? -??? / mqlq - mqlqa = worried

l7rf jjay : q
Hmmm… It’s not like MSA. Qaliq/qaliqa in MSA means worried, but in Darija worried is mshTôn, mshTôna.
safi / ??? = enough ; understood - and other meanings ?

l7rf jjay : i / y ?
Actually, in Arabic letters it’s saad not seen: [large]???[/large]

Thinking about it, the word comes from MSA, and means: Clear.
In Darija it’s also used to say okay.
nuS / ??? = half

l7rf jjay : S / ?
No wâw within the word.
[large]??[/large]
Qâ3 - ??? - bottom, as in the bottom of the ocean, I believe.

l7rf jjay: 3, ?
Right.
An example of the use of the word qâ3 is: qâ3 lkîsân - cups’ bottom. It’s used to tease the kids who wear those “huge” glasses. There would always be a kid who wears those glasses at school, and there is always someone to bully him/her for it.
lkhyar / ??? = cucumber

l7rf jjay : r / ?
Oh hey! You’re using the definite article there for L. That’s not part of the game ;), otherwise all the L words would be easy.
labas / ??? = ‘Hello’ ( Literally : no harm )

l7rf jjay : s / ?
You’re right for the literal meaning, but it’s not a hello, it’s more of a how are you.
namus / ??? = mosquito

l7rf jjay : s / ?

@ PolyglotWannabe
We’ve had a great run, eh ! Why is nobody else joining the game ? I hope they will now, because I’m off to Morocco for 3 months and will only occasionally be visiting a ‘cyber’ (= ‘internet cafe’)
Thanks for the game so far and nsufek mn b3d (see you later)
I hope that you’ll find hundreds of pages to read in the forum when you’re back, Lise. And I hope that you’ll have a good time there, using all the vocabulary you used here :).
And you meant “nshôfk”, your “h” slipped out.

The last letter in the previous word was seen, not saad.
But it’s okay for your first participation :).

Yeah, see we’re at the 43rd page. And when you should suggest a new word, you can check all the previous pages to see whether it was already posted or not. The objective of this exercise is to get you to use the vocabulary you learn…
We can start a fresh topic if you want, and then keep posting the chain of words that were suggested… But imagine when we reach over 20 words, you’ll have a huge list to update every time.
If you have another suggestion, please feel free to open a new topic.
naqis = less ( sorry I don’t know how to put the arabic signs )

l7rf jjay: S
NaqiS is actually minus.
Less is qll.

You don’t know the Arabic alphabet? Or just how to manage to post here in Arabic?

Again, the last letter was saad not seen. But you couldn’t have guessed if you didn’t know the previous word, and the previous person didn’t post it in Arabic letters.
I’d do without the i in safir, because it’s too MSA. In Darija it’s Sâfr.

I hope that you guys enjoyed the flood :hap:.

It’s my turn now with R…

Rrbî3 = [large]???[/large] , Spring, printemps.

Next: 3în.

3în - ??? - eye.

l7rf jjay: N, ?

Nml [large]???[/large]- Ant - Fourmis

L7rf jjay : L
