Dariji # Word of the day #

It would great if someone can take the incentive to write the word of the day along with a sentence each day. so that each passing day we can learn a new word… :okay:

Thank you in advance…

Example:

july 14 —

Bîkhîr : Fine, beau

Sentence: Kî dâyr? Kol shî bîkhîr?
How are You ? Is everything Fine ?
Comment vas-tu? Est tout beaux?

july 15 —

maTîsha: Tomatoes,Tomate

I hoping someone can do this instead of me !!

well, I can try…:hm:

3zîz 3liyya maTîsha, walakin ma 3frtsh kifâsh tabakha lihôm. (ou tabakhahôm ?)

(I like tomatoes but I don’t know how to cook them / J’aime les tomates mais je ne sais pas comment les cuisiner).

Its my turn :

hiyya hashshômîa bzzâf, tqôl liyya w t7ôl 7mrâ kimâ maTîsha !

( she is very shy, you talk to her an she turns red like a tomatoe! )

Thank you, elise_m & Onc Kamel, your input is important to understand where to use the word correctly

Before commenting/correcting the sentences, I just want to ask you Muneeb, why do you keep saying Dariji or Daraji? :^^: It’s ddârija lmghribiyya ;).

ohh! i might have misspelled it more then once, Dariji is a word now! , if u search it on google.

ROFL
Oh my! First search result google gives is this topic of yours! You just created a new word :D.

Did you the other results? It seems to be a valid word in some other languages. I am curious what does Dariji mean in other languages.

@ Darjji in urdu means Tailor and not sure about other languages

@SM : If you can change the forum, can you also correct the Forum tittle…

July 20—

Duwr : turn around, demi-tour

July 21—

Hrb: run away , fuir

Ash khafkom kelbin? Ana bzzaf bash homa qbi7in.
Fin kanshafna wa7d f ltrek (dyali?), kanduwrna drya ou kanhrbna.

Are you afraid of dogs? I am because they are nasty.
When i see one on my way, i turn around quickly and run away.

Well, at least, that’s what i was trying to say.
It’s probably completely wrong, so please bear with me.

Olivier… zitoun… Ca me rappelle quelque chose? Nous avons déjà été en contact par hasard?
And yes actually, your sentences need some corrections. But I can see that you know your vocabulary and made a good attempt to conjugate.

Katkhâfô mn lklâb? Anâ b3da kankhâf mnnhom, 7ît qbî7în.
[Did you hear about the poor little Moroccan girl who was bit by a nasty dog? She lost her foot because of that :(]
Mllî kanshôf klb f trîqî, kandôr w nhrb.

 • Plural of klb is klâb.
 • 7ît = because. Bâsh = for/to.
 • Anâ b3da = As for me.

The rest is about conjugation.

I sure can. Do you want me to? You don’t want to keep the original title?

Dwwr = To turn something.
Dâr = To turn. Dâr means also house.

The most important is to try , isn’t it ?

So, blâ 7shôma, I try to correct some mistakes I think you did.

 • Kelbîn seems to be the dual, not the plural - I should say klâb myself.
 • I think that Bâsh means “for”, so if you want to say because, use “7ît” or “3la khâtâr” (MSA ?)
 • Fîn means in and not when - When = imtâ in Darija (wqtâsh in MSA)
 • Your sentence sounds like if you used the first person of plural for your verbs : kanshâfna means… nothing - if I wanted to say when I see one (of them), I should use : imtâ nshôf wa7d fîhôm
 • Trîq sounds to me better than trek and t and T are solar letters, so : TTrîq
 • I don’t know if we can say TTriq diyalî or Trîqî… lets wait lala Sublima answers this
 • I understood that Mun911 said that Duwr was a noun, not a verb. The verb should be dâr/idîr
 • kan or k or t before the verbs means that the action is running, like “ing” in English. So kanhrbna means … nothing (k + nhrb + na = present progressive + present simple/inaccompli + 1st person of plural of the preterit/accompli - too much for just one word !). The correct form is nhrb

Hey presto : to corrections for SM instead of one ! Sorry Lala Sublima

And Zîtoun, feel free to correct my English, you’re welcome

7tta anâ kankhâf minhom! khoSosan haduk lkbar!
i am also affraid of dogs! espacially the big ones!

kont 3ndî wa7d sa7btî w kant 3ndhâ wa7d lklb kbîr bzzaf! kont khawfa mnô w dîma ifkkrnî l3jl! :mdr: :mdr:
i had a friend and she had a really big dog! it frightened me and it always made me think of a calf !!
