I’m heading back to Morocco, and I try to speak as much Darija as possible. I’m often asked if I am studying there. I don’t know how to say, “It’s my third time here”(or honestly fourth, fifth, etc…)
I can also usually describe my role bringing students to the country on trips, but I’m not sure if there is something better than, “Ana ustada w ana hna ma talba.” Open to ideas!!
You can say:
“Hadi t-telt / r-rabe‘ / l-khams marra li jit l-Maghrib.”
(This is the third / fourth / fifth time I’ve come to Morocco.)
Breakdown:
Hadi = this is
t-telt / r-rabe‘ / l-khams = third / fourth / fifth
marra = time (occurrence)
li jit l-Maghrib = that I’ve come to Morocco
You can also make it casual and more natural by saying:
“Jit l-Maghrib tlata / rb‘a / khams d l-marrat daba.”
(I’ve been to Morocco three / four / five times now.)
Your version is understandable, but here’s a more fluid and natural way to say it in Darija:
“Ana ustada w ana m‘a ṭṭulab hna f ziyaras/misafarat.”
(I’m a teacher and I’m here with students on visits/trips.)
You could also say:
“Ana ustada w jibt m‘aya ṭṭulab l-Maghrib.”
(I’m a teacher and I brought students with me to Morocco.)
Or:
“Ana mas’ula ‘la gruop dyal ṭṭulab li jay y‘rfu l-Maghrib.”
(I’m responsible for a group of students coming to learn about Morocco.)
