what does to finish mean in Darija?
I read it once means “kml” and once as “sali”, which one is right?
and if i wanted to say “what time does the film finish?”

These sentences I’ve tried to translate, want to know if my attempt was successful or not, please?

1- I’ll collect everybody’s papers at the end of the exam =
ghadia nakhd lwraq dyial kol wa7ed f nhayet lemta7an/ lkhtebar or (f nhayet lwaqt dyial lmte7an/ lkhtebar (not sure which one is correct)

2- Just finish this piece and I’ll being you another one =
ghir kml/sali (?) hadi ltrofa wna ghadi njiblk w7da okhra/wa7ed okhar

3- Let’s wait few minutes =
yalla kntsana chwayia d dqayeq

4- Is the bank near here? =
wach lbnka 7ad hna?

we dont say khtibar … only mti7an
ur sentence was good but i find it more darija if u say : ghadi nakhod lwra9 dial kol wa7ed f lekher dial mti7an

ghir kml/sali had terf ( trofa is the plural ) … the rest was good

3- Let’s wait few minutes =
yalla kntsana chwayia d dqayeq == > khlina / aji ntsenaw chwya

4- Is the bank near here? =
wach lbnka 7ad hna? ==> wach lbanka ‘‘9riba mn hna’’ / " ghir 9riba hna "

Sali sounds like a name over here, do you have girls with that name in Morocco?!

and what “ay” that preceded the verb?

and “khlina / aji” can be the equivalent of lets?

ohhh sorry lol the verb isnt sali , its sala :slight_smile:

ay is the contraction form of ghadi ysali … ghadi ysali became ghaysali then aysali :stuck_out_tongue:
another example howa ghadi yemchi ====> ghaymchi ===> aymchi

but im not sure if we can do this to all verbs let me think a lil bit ( khelini nfeker chwya :stuck_out_tongue: )

yes , lets in darija can be khelina / aji / yalah
but u must know where to use everyone

for example we say yalah nemchiw ( lets go ) and not khlina nemchiw

Well, i can find their equivalents in msri
I remember a song, in darija it would be: khalina n3ichaw

I think it’s complicated…it needs to be among native speakers than to be explaned by a native to anyone…

I wonder if ‘khelini’ (let me), khelina (let us) implies ‘give me / us some time’. Am I right that the verb is khla which can also mean ‘to leave’ ?
So - ‘khelini nfeker chwya’ - - - > let me think a bit ---- > leave me ( not literally leave = go away, but in the sense of ‘give me time’ ) to think a bit

That remind me of sth else, “to leave” means khla not trk?
