Oh, by the way, is it just me or does any other non native Arabic speaker find that the most ridiculously difficult words to understand usually turn out to be Arabic adaptations of English (substitute your native tongue) words? I spent a full ten minutes a couple of weeks ago with “krawan” only to figure out that it was crown, as in Royal Crown Hotel. By the way, Karawan means bustard (not the bad word that is almost the same in spelling) in English…which is a kind of bird.

Hm, if never stepped on an German word, but sometimes it’s funny to see want has come out of word from languages I know in Arabic/Darija.
- Alabama
Do you “step” on words in the German language? Idioms are so interesting. In English, we come across words.

I was this morning in a hurry, I had no time to think or look up the correct word, what I was looking for was " to stumble, to trip". And now that I looked it up there is the translation for “über etwas stoplern” " to come across sth." but it says also: to hit on sth.; to stumble across sth.; to stumble on sth.; to stumble upon sth… http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=de&searchLoc=0&cmpType=relaxed§Hdr=on&spellToler=on&chinese=both&pinyin=diacritic&search=stolpern&relink=on

@Nuwwara, You know, we actually do “stumble upon the right phrase” in English. To stumble means to almost trip, because you didn’t see something on the floor and lost your balance or, I suppose we could extend it to even that you stepped on it. So, you can step on something which can cause you to stumble, and you can stumble across the perfect word, but I maintain rigidly that you can not step on a word…Unless, of course, there are words literally spelled out on cards or something strewn across the floor; then you might step on one of them. he he he he
