I would like to know how to say the word “community” as in specifically a group of people who have a particular characteristic in common or what the closest translation to that word is in Moroccan Arabic.

Community is typically translated in Modern Standard Arabic as mojtama3, which is the same word for society. However, I personally think that it does not accurately reflect the smaller scale and homogeneous nature of a community.
You might go with majmou3a, which means group. Not quite what you are looking for, but it’s probably the closest option in the Moroccan vernacular.
